Relationship & Couples Counseling

Most of the time couples therapy involves two people who are married to each other seeking counseling to save or improve their marriage.  However, this category of counseling also includes dating couples and engaged couples.  On occasion, two people seek "couples therapy" for other relationships such as co-workers or roommates.  Couples therapy is, therefore, appropriate for any two people who agree to seek counseling to improve their relationship.

Couples therapy usually involves working on issues such as communication skills, interpersonal space, sexual issues, money, jealousy, infidelity, addictions of one of the members of the couple, anger, and any other intimacy issue.

Couples therapy on a rare occasion can involve only one or two sessions but, typically, it lasts several months.  The length of the therapy depends on the couple, the problems, their motivation to work on the therapy, and the goals that they have for their relationship.  The couple and the therapist usually determine when the therapy is completed.  It is important for the couple to know, however, that they may stop therapy whenever they choose.
